We walked in through drizzle on the first day and I was worried the whole trip would be like that. It cleared overnight and stayed perfect for the rest. Kapuche in sunshine with the ice glowing was worth the wet start. The trail is a mix of forest and open hillside and never gets boring. Good value trek, well organised, no problems at all.

Sikles is one of the largest Gurung villages in Nepal and staying there was as memorable as the lake. Stone houses, slate roofs, and people who genuinely wanted to talk to us. Binod grew up nearby and knew everyone, which changed the whole experience. We ended up eating dinner with a family rather than in a lodge. The trek to Kapuche and Kori after that was beautiful but Sikles is what I still think about.

Fair warning, the accommodation on this trek is simple. Nho-ta was cold and I was glad I brought a proper sleeping bag rather than relying on blankets. But you are trading comfort for having a glacier lake almost to yourself, which felt like a good deal to me. The team carried everything, cooked well, and made sure we were warm enough. Would recommend going in October or November for the clear skies.

I had seen photos of Kapuche on Instagram for two years before finally going. What surprised me is how quickly you get there. Two days of walking from Sikles and you are standing beside a glacier lake with ice floating in it. The water is a colour I cannot describe properly. We had lunch by the shore and nobody wanted to leave. This is a great option if you only have a week and do not want to fly anywhere.

The extra day exploring around Kori towards Thulek was not something I had paid much attention to when booking and it turned out to be my favourite day. Open ridges, grazing land, and views in every direction with no trail traffic at all. Anjan kept pointing out birds and told us which peaks we were looking at. A proper walking day rather than just getting from one lodge to the next.
