Overview

Jiri Gokyo Cho-la Pass Everest Base Camp Trek is new founded itinerary for those travellers who want to explore and experience the Sherpa villages, monasteries and culture, fabulous experiences and social life. Jiri Gokyo Cho-la Pass Everest Base Camp Trek has spectacular views of more than dozens of mountains but requires a good walking experience and a good physical health condition. We go along with the bus driver to Jiri through the hilly region exploring the climate pattern of the hilly and mountain region. We walk through the Lamayuru la pass at 3660 m altitude; basically, it improves your acclimatization while moving towards the Everest region. We move through Junbeshi a Sherpa village towards Takshindo. We cross the Takshindo La before descending towards the raging river of the Dudh Kosi. We follow the “milk river” north through terraced hillsides and small villages to join the main Everest trail below Lukla.

The route passes through Lush valleys with abundant flora and fauna, spectacular forests of blooming rhododendron in March and April, and blue pine and fir. Past friendly Sherpa villages and Buddhist monasteries through the famous Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar Tengboche Buddhist Monastery, Khunde Khumjung. And far above the tree line towards the earth’s highest mountains Mt. Everest 8848m and moving down towards the Gokyo lake, Gokyo Ri, Cho-yu 8152m, Lhotse 8516m, Thamserku 6506m, Makalu 8463m and Ama Dablam 6456m, Kantega and many more mountains.

Itinerary

Day 1:
Drive from Kathmandu(1400m) to Bhandara(2200m)

First of all, our team wants to welcome you. Today, your journey will begin in the morning for Bhandara through a public bus. You can spot beautiful views of Mt. Langtang, Mt. Lirung, Mt. Ganesh and the Koshi river. Then you will reach Jiri. Crossing through the different villages like Sangbadana, Kosaribas, Bhanjyang takes you to Bhandara. You can also view and relish the different scenes of mountains, and villages while travelling on the bus.

Day 2:
Bhandara(2200m) to Sete(2520m)

Today your trail goes down to Likhu Khola which is really easy. You cross the bridge and the winding paths from where you reach the small village of Kinja. From there your way is a steep climb until you reach Sete. You can view amazing landscapes surrounded on all sides. You can also have the opportunity to visit old Gompas there. On this day you will have a lot of pain but your struggle will not go waste as the view of the Himalayas will comfort you.

Day 3:
Sete(2520m) to Junbesi(2700m)

On this day you will trek to Junbesi via Lamjura Pass() which is above sea level. You will pass through small farmhouses and teahouses. You will then follow the beautiful rhododendron forests and some monasteries. Then you will cross the highest point till Namche Bazaar. You again descend until you reach Tragdobuk. From where you turned to the north side of the valley and reached Junbesi.

Day 4:
Junbesi(2700m) to Nunthala(2330m) via Taksindu-la(3071m).

Today after having breakfast you will trek to Nunthala through Takshindu-la. In the first hours of your trek, Everest starts to be visible on the skyline. You cross a hospital and a landing strip at Phaplu which is followed by a market at Salleri. You will then descend towards the RingmoKhola, you start to make your way to the village Ringmo. The trail between Ringmo and Namche Bazaar is the steeper climb of the old route. After crossing the Trakshindo pass, your trail descends to Nunthala.

Day 5:
Nunthala(2330m) to Bupsa(2040m)

Today is the shortest day on the trail to EBC starting in Cheung. Ok, now from Nunthala you descend to the Dudh Koshi River which is also called Milk River because of its cloudy colour due to lots of sediments. Walking for almost four 4 hours leads you to the colourful village named Khari Khola. You can locate the rice terraces over there. Almost walking for 1 to 2 hours leads you to Bupsha which is the last part of the trail and is also so steep.

Day 6:
Bupsa(2040m) to Chauri kharka(2730m) Via Kare-la Pass(3145m)

After having a savoury breakfast in the morning, you will start your trek to Chauri Kharka through Kare-La Pass. You will ascend through a hill and again a ridge then you will leave the valley behind. You will then reach Paiya(2730m). Then you will continue your walk to Kare-La pass. You will cross the gorge then you further start to ascend to the village of Chaurikharka. From there you will head towards Paiya.

Day 7:
Chauri kharka(2730m) to Manjo(2800m)

Today your destination is to reach Manjo. You will go downhill to the left side passing the local inn and houses until you reach Chung. Then comes Lukla where there is a long suspension bridge which follows downward routes. You will descend to Thado Koshi and ascend a bit across the small bridge. You will now reach Ghat village where there are several Buddhist setups. Then a short ascend takes you to Phakding. You need to cross the suspension bridge and walk along Dudhkoshi valley. Now you will walk a bit up and down a level. Through the way, you will reach Banker from where you ascend the trail and reach your destination to Manjo.

Day 8:
Manjo(2800m) to Namche(3440m)

Today, heading through the Dudh Koshi river from Manjo, you will start the second day of your climb. You will cross the 5 suspension bridges on your approach to Namche. As soon as you pass the last bridge, you will continue with a 2 hours climb. On the way, you will relish a fascinating view of Mt Everest. You will reach Jorsalle by climbing 15-20 minutes which is the last spot before Namche. Here you will have your lunch. By then continuing the journey you can see an amazing view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Nuptse. A trip through pine woods for 2 to 3 hours depending on your speed prompts the promising and alluring village of the Namche Bazaar.

Day 9:
Acclimatization at Namche(3440m)

Today you will go on a climb around Namche. Right after that, you will visit the Hillary museum. On the trek, you will be seeing a mesmerizing view of the Everest range which is considered one of the most amazing viewpoints of the world. After thirty minutes, you will proceed with your trip to Syangboche Everest(3780m) where you will appreciate the awesome mountain views. You will be welcomed by wide views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and different mountains on a day. You will appreciate visiting the Syangboche landing strip(3780m) from where you will move towards Khunde(3840m) passing stone Buddhist Monuments. Furthermore, you can likewise visit the Hillary school and hospital which was made by New Zealand Edmund Hillary. After finishing your lunch program at Khumjung, you will gradually move to Climb Everest View Hotel from where you can appreciate an intriguing view of numerous mountains. At that point, you can appreciate it and go down to Namche.

Day 10:
Namche(3440m) to Dole(3860m)

After breakfast, you start your trek to Dole. You have a 360-degree view from here then your trek leads you down to Kanjuma village. You will now head uphill to Mogla hilltop where you will have lunch today. You trek downhill towards Porsche Thanga. This village lies on the bank of the river. If you wish to buy some light souvenirs from the mountain you will get them here. You walk through forests and waterfalls which leads you to Dole.

Day 11:
Dole(3860m) to Machhermo(4410m)

This day your trek begins with a consistent climb along the valley. The pine forest controls the woods of forest land. As we go up, you can see delightful summer settlements and grazing land all over. This is not a big surprise for you. The big surprise will be the awesome views of Mt. Cho Oyu(8201m) which is known as the neighbouring peaks of Mt. Kantega(6782m) and Mt. Thamserku(6623m). In the time of the early afternoon, you will reach up to the Machhermo(4470m). You can explore Machhermo and then rest there.

Day 12:
Machhermo(4410m) to Gokyo(4750m)

Today you will proceed towards the holy lake of Gokyo. You will follow a panoramic route to Pangka(4,548m) and afterwards move down following the met-water stream which goes down toward the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier(4700m). We at that point climb a rough inclination into the removal valley by the side of the glacier, passing first Gokyo Lake. You will now reach the second lake that heads above the Cho La glaciers. Your way to Lobuche and Everest comes later in the trip. The third lake is called Dudh Pokhari. While Climbing by the side of the lake, you will cherish the highest points of Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang which are reflected in its emerald green water.

Day 13:
Gokyo(4750m) to Thangna(5140m)

Today your way goes from Gokyo to Thangna. You will also climb straight uphill on some rocky mountains which reminds you of the climb from Gorak Shep to Kalapatthar. You will then visit Gokyo Lake and Everest. You can also view Cho La Pass. The stunning view of the different mountains is awesome. You can also get an opportunity to see the Sagarmatha Region and a huge area of Sagarmatha National Park. From there, your trek is quite short and pleasant to reach Thangna. You will descend for nearly 2 hours to reach Thangna.

Day 14:
Thangna(5140m) to Lobuche(4940m)

Today your routes are the most extreme trekking. Your destination is to reach Lobuche today. So on your way, you also need to cross Dzongla through Cho La Pass. It is a bit difficult to walk down that road. You cross a valley from Thangna you will trek on the wall of mountains from where your upward paths take you to Cho La Pass which is difficult with rough landscapes. The mountains from there are the most fascinating things. You will then come across the Cho La glacier and walk through there. Continuing your trek for some while you will reach the viewpoints. From there, you will see some of the splendid and tallest mountains from here. You will then descend from there and reach Dzongla. Then you will continue your path on a smooth trail alongside the Khumbu glacier. You will reach your today’s destination Lobuche walking almost for 3 hours.

Day 15:
Lobuche(4940m) to Everest base camp(4830m) and back to Gorak Shep(3164m)

In the first part of the day, you will climb till you reach up to Gorak Shep from Lobuche. After you stroll for 60 minutes, the way gets troublesome however you will be amazed by extremely pleasant views on a wide range of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse and different mountains. You will take lunch at Gorakshep. After having lunch, you will go to your last destination for Everest Base Camp. On your path, you will also get to see Khumbu Glacier(4900m). After hiking for around one hour you will cross the glacier and enter the Everest Base Camp area(5364m). After reaching there you can see the renowned Khumbu glacier and Icefall. After roaming, you can enjoy the sunset there and you come back to Gorak Shep due to the low temperature and high altitude at Everest Base Camp.

Day 16:
Gorakshep(5164m) to Dingboche(4410m)

Today early in the morning you will hike to Kala Patthar(). From there you can see the impressive view of sunrise. From here you will continue your today’s trek and reach the place where the first cabinet meeting regarding the issues of global warming was held in 2009. From here you can have a chance to see splendid views of Mt. Everest(8848m), Mt. Lhotse(8516m), Nuptse(), Ama Dablam(), Thamserku(), Kusum Kangaru(), Khumbutse(6639m) and many more. Once you reach Kala Patthar you can feel that you are touching Mt. Pumori. Then you will come to Gorakshep for breakfast and continue to Dingboche through Lobuche and Double. A bit far from Douglas you need to cross the river which is coming from Everest Base Camp. After walking for some time there comes two ways. The left-hand side goes to Dingboche and the right-hand side goes to Pheriche. You will take the way to Dingboche. And finally, you will reach Dingboche after a struggle today.

Day 17:
Dingboche(4410m) to Namche(3440m)

Day 18:
Namche(3440m) to Lukla(2850m)

From Namche to Lukla, it is around seven hours downhill. On this day, you will also get a chance to visit Sagarmatha National Park from which you can enjoy more nature. You will say farewell to this trip with an important walk down to Lukla.

Day 19:
Flight from Lukla(2850m) to Kathmandu(1400m)

Next morning you will book a departure flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. During the flight, you will appreciate the lovely landscape until you arrive at Kathmandu from where you will head to your inn and get some rest.
