Sikles Trek is one of short but fascinating eco-lodge trek in Nepal that escapes normal Annapurna trail and takes you to secluded part of Himalaya, pre-dominantly occupied by Gurung community and rarely visited by outsiders. This fascinating trail offers close peek to Gurung community and their culture who are well-known for their bravery in British Gurkha Regiment.
Sikles Trek is also an alternative short holiday in Annapurna region located at un-crowded part of Annapurna Conservation Area, beneath the shadow of majestic Machhapuchhre, Lamjung Himal and Annapurna ranges.
Beside marvelous mountain panorama, trekkers get privilege to witness traditional culture (dance, song and festival) that has still remained intact till date. Trekkers can spend several days exploring local life-style and observing the handicraft production. Of particular interest, local cloth weaving and the ancient water driven flourmill. Flock songs and dances are major part of life and common occurrence in Sikles.
Annapurna Sikles Eco-trek follows the terraced fields, ethnic village and mixed forest of rhododendron and broad-leaf. In spring (March – April), the blooming rhododendron adorns the entire forest and makes the trek magical. Although, the trekking pace is slow, the trail offers ample time to study local flora and fauna and soak in natural charisma.
Sikles is second largest Gurung village in Nepal (after Ghandruk). The narrow alley way of village is protected by stone walls and mud houses. The thatched roofed houses are grouped and pattered in traditional style. The village is established by ACA project as a model trekking village and is an internal part of eco-trekking route. It lies to the north east of Pokahra and sits at elevation of 2,000m. Above the village is Rising Danda, which offers the majestic view of Annapurna II and Lamjung HImal.
Sikles offers cozy local managed teahouses and homestays with neat accommodation and intriguing hospitality. Staying at eco-lodge directly benefits the local, as the certain profit acquired is returned to the locals by investing in different developmental sectors.
